The forward's illness comes at an unfortunate time, with the game at PSV likely to have provided him with a chance to impress. Mohamed Salah and Diaz have been left at home, while youngster Jayden Danns started up front.
It does not appear that Nunez is Al-Nassr's only target, with Jhon Duran of Aston Villa set for a medical in London ahead of a move to the club this week, report. That would see Duran teamed up with Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane in their attack.
Nunez should still receive plenty of playing time between now and the end of the season as Liverpool compete on four fronts for silverware. The Uruguayan has scored six goals this season and still has plenty to offer Slot.
